Tom swings through the air on a large vine in the middle of his woods. His hand grip was much better than mine and he made it successfully three times.

Week 10, '06 League

by Atlatls N More
7/18/2006

It was a hot day and Jack, Tom and I were the only ones venturing out into the stuffy evening air to throw. As the evening went on, however, the air became less oppressive and it actually turned into a very nice night.

Like last week, we decided that we would throw three ISAC-style games. In the first game Jack had a perfect 50 from 15 meters, the first time that that has been done this year. I’m happy to say that my focus was back and I threw the most X’s in any game I have ever thrown.

Game 1: Dennis Lantz – 95 (6-X); Jack Rowe – 85X; Tom Goble – 82XX

Game 2: Dennis Lantz – 93X; Jack Rowe – 89XX and Tom Goble – 48 (different dart)

Game 3: Dennis Lantz – 85; Tom Goble – 83X and Jack Rowe – 83.

Then we played Tarzan. On Tom’s hill, overlooking the trail, is a hefty vine wrapped, I am guessing, over forty feet from the top of a large tree. Tom had cut the base of the vine and – using an old tree stump located several yards up the hill as a launching pad – one could swing many feet out into the air.

After watching Tom and Jack successfully swing out and back, I was excited to do the same… unfortunately, the tendonitis in my left elbow caused that hand’s grip to loosen halfway through my swing and I was unable to retain hold of the vine. I found myself being launched out and down the hill where I luckily missed trees and stumps and crashed to the ground. I was unhurt, except for my ego… and Jack had snapped a picture as I was flying through the air so the entire moment gave us something to chuckle about the rest of the night. As soon as Jack sends the picture I will post in here.

Week 11 will be held Tuesday, July 25 at Tom’s.
