Atlatls 'N More

Week 3, '06 League

by Atlatls N More
5/18/2006

The ground was damp from the previous day's rain and it was just cold enough so that going barefoot wasn't comfortable. The grass was a bit tall, but it was perfect throwing weather.

We had two new throwers to make up for some missing regulars, out for sickness and other reasons. Tom Dellow lives up the road from the EMC Club and came to an event last summer. He had purchased an atlatl and dart from Jack and, while not practicing much at all, showed good promise. Lou Martin doesn't have his own atlatl or dart. Prior to his throwing on this night his only instruction came from Tom Goble a few years back. To throw with us he borrowed a Lizard and a dart from Jack.

We decided that on this night we would simply throw three ISAC-style games. We didn't want the beginners struggling inside the woods where equipment might get broken.

The atlatl gods were with me on this night and I threw the highest score I have ever thrown... in competition or practice. (I don't practice much at all and in some article I will explain my thoughts on practice... good and bad.)

Scores for the ISAC-style games were:

Game 1: Dennis Lantz - 91; Jack Rowe - 86X; Tom Goble - 76; Tom Dellow - 58; Mike Blakeman - 36 and Lou Martin - 12

Game 2: Dennis Lantz - 97XX; Jack Rowe - 85; Tom Goble - 66X; Mike Blakeman - 30; Tom Dellow - 19 and Lou Martin - 16.

Game 3: Dennis Lantz - 92XX; Jack Rowe - 89X; Tom Goble - 80XX; Mike Blakeman - 40 and Tom Dellow - 23. (Lou had to leave early.)

Week four will be held next Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at the EMC Club. Everyone is welcome to join us.
