Tyoga Atlatl Association
In 1999 and 2000, a group of new friends from northeastern Pennsylvania and the southern tier of New York started the Tyoga Atlatl Association. Only recent converts to the atlatl community, the founding members were interested in promoting the study and teaching of the ancient skills used by all of our ancestors to survive. These skills were developed over thousands of years and are the greater part of the human success story. As such they are a fertile educational source. Some of our other interests include flintknapping, brain-tanning, basket making, fire by friction, natural cordage making, pottery, primitive hunting and artifact collecting.
It is the TAA objective to be a bridge between the world of prehistory and the present and to share the enjoyment of our common heritage in a fun, exciting and educational way. The atlatl has returned to the modern world and the TAA is just one of many atlatl associations forming around the world.
The TAA was one of the first groups to have an Atlatl League, a Hall of Fame, an Atlatl Olympics and three annual tournaments.
