A sketch of what a target for this card game might look like. This is a fun game if there are eight or more people who want to throw for fun.

Another Card Game

by Atlatls N More

Another fun game involving a deck of cards is a spin-off of a dartboard drinking game, which I have personally never played, but sort of watched from the sidelines. Of course, there need not be any drinking involved with this game to make it fun, but I don’t see why a dollar entry fee can’t go into a pot for the winner to collect. I have left out a lot of the drinking game rules because they don’t need to be included.

The target for this game needs to be specially made. I recommend a pie-shaped target with 16 segments and a bulls-eye hub. Starting at the top, center right, the target will be ‘numbered’ with Ace, 2, 3, 4, Queen, 5, 6, DRAW, King, 7, 8, DRAW, JACK, 9, 10, DRAW… and the hub in the center is WILD. The picture in the upper right corner is a sketch of what such a target might look like.

Every contestant draws a set number of cards. This can be five, seven or more… it all depends on how long you want to play. For ease of explanation, let’s say that each contestant draws seven cards from a deck in which the jokers have been discarded. There should be a few cards left in a ‘Draw’ pile (and any cards that have been played can be added to the bottom of this pile).

Set your distance to the target according to the size of the target and the skill of the throwers. Then choose your throwing order. This order will be kept throughout the game. Each contestant will only need one dart.

The object of the game is to get rid of all of your cards and the only way to get rid of a card is to hit the number or word that corresponds to it… or have someone else hit it for you. Whenever a number or face segment is hit on the target, any player can discard one card with that number or face from their hand.

If a thrower hits a DRAW segment of the target, he or she will draw a card from the pile. No one knows what cards you have, so they can be helping you out by hitting your number.

When a WILD is hit, the thrower gets to choose what to discard. Anyone with a card with the number or face that the thrower chooses can also discard one card.

Note: only one card can be discarded at a time. If you have a pair or three of a kind, you (or someone else) will need to hit that number more than once.

When a thrower has no more cards, they have to throw at the center – and hit it – to win.

You can make up any other rules you want, as long as everyone knows them prior to starting.
